For those of you Millennials who have never heard of a toll free phone number, as my son has not, this posting is for your benefit.
Back in the day, it cost money to make phone calls from state to state. It also costed money to call from area code to area code.
Then, with the advent of cellular technology, there was a cost per minute per phone call depending on your carrier and where you were calling.
I remember .20 cents a minute, during peak times to make a phone call from my cellular phone.
When I was a kid, my dad brought home a cellular phone from his employer. He was a general contractor at White Sands missile range working on the Pershing and Nike ICBM projects. The thing was the size of a briefcase. I was impressed, nonetheless.
Things have changed and to make most domestic phone calls, having service is enough to have the phone call included as part of you just having service with your carrier. AT&T, Sprint, and the others, all have most calls included, at least domestically.
If you are going to venture to call one of those 976 phone numbers, you are going to get a hefty fee. These usually have to do with phone sex numbers. If you are going to be calling a person in a country, not FREE, as provided by your cellular company, your cost may be huge. Therefore be careful!
