At least Paris MacIvor did at that time. When we started, buyers and sellers met in the same room.
We all came together to make sure of who we were and what our intentions were.
We did this on every single transaction. Typically in the “meeting room” at the brokerage that hosted the real estate listing.
The lender, the buyers agent, the sellers agent, the seller and buyers agent would all meet in the same room.
The discussion was more of “negotiation” at that time.
We explained our position, how much we had offered and why.
Looking back, those days were a bit more simpler than today. Today, the offers stream in without any verification of who the buyer is.
In fact, when it comes to investors buying Santa Clarita real estate, there would be no-one at the table. They would be represented by the “buyers agent”.
In that day, the fax, was untrusted. If an offer was going to be sent, while the “office fax” was often used, the only way to ensure the offer was delivered in it’s entirety was to deliver it to the listing agent.
I sometimes feel sorry for those agents that are not familiar with the market of past.
I did not care for the “man behind the curtain” approach to real estate. Zillow, trulia and realtor.com did not exist.
Today, all of the real estate listings can be found on the local agent’s websites. Today, there are many more online games when it comes to the “real and actual” listings that are for sale. Thanks to the business model, of monetization of a buyers or sellers personal information, played by the Real Estate syndication companies.
