My stage name is DJ Martin FX. Martin is derived from my middle name and the FX is an acronym for special effects.
My inception to the art of DJ began in 1996 when I took two boom boxes and began intertwining different songs together. Two years later my father purchased for me my very own set of turntables, Technics 1200. This thus marked the beginning of my mobile DJ career.
The type of events I play at are: weddings, birthday’s, quinceaneras, high school events, etc….
My sound system consists of JBL professional speakers and sound woofers. This sound system is combined with a QSC amplifier thus delivering a smooth, crystal-clear, and high-frequency playback. My set-up also pertains an illuminant light display. In 2008 I became a digital DJ in which I added two new components to my set-up; a laptop, this contains all my music, and a vinyl emulation program called Serato Scratch Live, this manipulates and playbacks digital audio.
This magnificent innovation to the art of DJing has made my mobile DJ career easier. I’ve become more compact in regards to the equipment I have to carry as well as I don’t have to carry milk crates full of records anymore. My laptop holds all of my music which consists of a huge array of genres (Disco, Classic Rock, Rap, R&B, Funk, 80’s Pop, High Energy, Freestyle, Oldies, Cumbias, Salsa, Merengue, Reggae, Alternative Rock, etc…). I’m very familiar with all these genres.
I once performed at a high school event were my records began to warp due to the sun and it’s immense heat. My records began to skip and the sound just sounded horrifically awful. I had one of my high school buddies shade the sun by using record covers, it still didn’t help out. I ended up having a milk crate full of warped records. I once performed at a quinceanera were my rca cables began to act up. The sound began to be distorted and stat-icky.
This was really embarrassing especially performing in front of at least 200 people. I once DJ’d a party were I had to play indoors and the dance floor consisted of the living and dining room floor. One of the party goers became really intoxicated and had a little bit to much to drink.
He then began to throw up on the living room floor thus created a horrific smell. Everyone began to leave the party because the smell was unbearable. There has been a couple instances were parties had to come to an abrupt end because of fights. I could recall at least 3 parties.
My hourly rate begins at $80/nr. and it also depends on why type of event it is. Weddings tend to be more per hour.
