I was at a great networking Lunch this week. Hosted by the SCV Concierge. Hold on just a minute if you think “networking lunches” are all a-Typical.
There were in excess of 50 Local Business Owners. Each were “assigned” to a table of 4. Each one, during a very tasty and inexpensive lunch, took a turn introducing themselves and speaking about their Business to the other 3 at their respective table.
It could have been compared to locking eyes with a Stranger across a crowded room – Instant connections were made, at least of the Business Variety 🙂 (at least at my table…)
After 1.5 hours of very intimate, productive and quality time – Cards are exchanged and each person, at the table of 4, asks the question of how they would improve another’s business, if it were theirs, to another person that is seated at the table. You would be surprised what kinds of ideas you get that you have never thought of.
Besides the Relationships that you seed at the SCV Concierge Lunches – You learn so much from others that have nothing to do with your particular industry or business. Sometimes, when I am talking about Real Estate, I don’t talk about it like a consumer, or how a buyer or seller wants, I am talking about it like an agent. You might, from time to time, act in the same way with your business, product or service.
We were seated at the table and the word “Cold Calling” was mentioned and how much it is hated. For the uninitiated, a cold call is when you call a business without any relationship existing or referral in place – you call them cold, intro yourself and your product or service. When this was mentioned I thought about something Zig Ziglar once said, “They are not Cold Calls – You should call them Warm Calls…”
Very True indeed Zig!!! He said the same thing about an “Alarm Clock, it should be called an Opportunity Clock…”
It was a great time and we will have some of the Guests on our Future SCV Moves Radio Show. Stay Tuned!
BTW – The SCV Moves Radio Show and subsequent Blog Write Up on Santa Clarita Business Blog is without cost, obligation or any expectation of reciprocity. It also gives your Website, Blog any Internet Presence you already have one hell of a shot in the arm…
